40th anniversary of Japanese society

The Society of Rheology, Japan, celebrated its 40th anniversary on the 17th of May 2013, by organising a special international symposium on rheology in the historic city of Kyoto. The symposium consisted of five invited talks by distinguished speakers from Australia (J. Ravi Prakash), China (Zheng Qiang), Europe (Dimitris Vlassopoulos), Korea (Kyung Hyun Ahn), and the U.S.A. (Ralph. H. Colby). To commemorate the occasion, the Australian Society of Rheology presented a special memento to the Japanese Society in the form of a "Don Sheil" metal alloy plate with an Australian Flowering Gum pattern engraved with a congratulatory message. The photograph below, taken during the conference banquet, shows the President of the SRJ receiving the memento from J. Ravi Prakash, representing the ASR.
