Paul Grossman memorial lecture

A memorial lecture for Paul Grossman has been organised by the Victorian Branch Committee of Amnesty International Australia, in consultation with the Australian Society of Rheology.  Paul Grossman was active in both organisations, and this lecture is intended to run annually, 2012 being the inaugural year.

Paul Grossman's interests in Human Rights led him in 1962 to become a founding member of the Victorian Branch of Amnesty International.  Meanwhile, Paul spent over 30 years working for CSIRO, in the Division of Forest Products, retiring in 1987.  His work largely revolved around the rheology of wood, including its creep, stress relaxation and vibrational properties.  He also helped to found the ASR, and was its first President.

The lecture will be given by Prof. Roger Jones, on the topic "A Just Climate", exploring the moral and ethical dimensions of scientific enquiry, with special reference to Climate Change.  This reflects Paul's passion for science and human rights.

The lecture is scheduled to take place on 21 September 2012, in the Yarra room at the Melbourne Town Hall.
