On the 6th December, RMIT's Rheology and Materials Processing Centre will be running a thickened sludge pumping seminar at the Rydges Carlton Hotel, Melbourne.

Seminar outline
There is continuous pressure on industries that pump and process sludges to improve efficiency and increase concentration. This leads to an increase in the non-Newtonian nature of the sludge. This in turn makes estimation of key engineering characteristics such as pressure drop in pipe flow and the velocity at which turbulent flow occurs very unreliable using conventional means. Reliable estimation of these engineering characteristics can be very important in a number of situations including long pipe lines, gravity flow applications, applications where a design flow rate is required or digester heat exchangers for example where turbulent flow is required to ensure adequate heat transfer rates. This seminar is designed to equip you with a practical understanding of sludge flow properties (i.e. sludge rheology) and their measurement, allow you to estimate pressure drops in pipe flow and determine the transition velocity to turbulent flow. It will also provide an insight into the science of rheology which can be used to address more difficult problems.

Presenters

  • Dr Terry Anderson
  • Dr Jean-Christophe Baudez
  • Professor Sati Bhattacharya
  • Professor Raj Chhabra
  • Professor Paul Slatter

Registration
The number of participants is limited; therefore it is recommended that you register as early as possible.
An administrative fee of AUD$50 will be charged for cancellations received one week prior to the workshop day. After this date there will be no refunding of registration fees but full credit can be given for another person from the same company to attend. Substitutions may be made at any time but an advance notice would be appreciated.
RMIT Rheology and Materials Processing Centre will not be responsible for any costs incurred by the attendee in the unlikely event of the seminar being cancelled.
