Davoud Zare to receive 'Howard See Young Rheologist Travel Award' from ASR

Every two years the ASR selects a young rheologist demonstrating outstanding research and presentation skills upon whom to bestow the ‘Howard See Young Rheologist Travel Award’.

Three candidates were shortlisted for the 2014 award, based on their proposed conference abstracts:

  • Mr. Davoud Zare (School of Physical and Chemical Science, Victoria University of Wellington)
  • Mr. Chandi Sasmal (Department of Chemical Engineering, Monash University)
  • Mr. Enrico Hadde (School of Chemical Engineering, The University of Queensland)

The three shortlisted candidates each prepared a 10 minute slideshow presentation, delivered via teleconference to the Award Committee. Each presentation was followed by an intensive 5 minute Question and Answer period.

All three candidates made commendable efforts.

The Award Committee were unanimous in their assessment, and the Australian Society of Rheology is delighted to announce that the winner of the ‘Howard See Young Rheologist Travel Award’ for 2014 is:

Mr. Davoud Zare.

This award will cover conference-related expenses up to $2500.

We heartily congratulate Mr. Zare, and wish him all the best as he prepares to present his research at the 7th International Symposium on Food Rheology and Structure, held in Zurich later this year.

The Award Committee additionally decided to bestow a minor discretionary ‘Encouragement Bursary’ upon Mr. Chandi Sasmal, to cover conference-related expenses up to $500. This is intended to assist in his presenting at the 87th Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology, in Baltimore later this year.

We thank all applicants for the time and effort they put into their applications. We look forward to the upcoming conference reports and ASR seminars. And, further into the future, we look forward to receiving another round of impressive applications towards the end of 2016 for the next Award.
